Reflection

At Christmas, we celebrate the coming of Jesus — the Light of the world, breaking into our darkness. Long before His birth, the prophet Isaiah foretold this moment, declaring, “The people who walk in darkness will see a great light.” When Jesus later proclaimed, “I am the light of the world” (John 8:12), He was not offering a comforting metaphor, but announcing the fulfilment of that ancient promise.

His words also echoed the burning bush, where God revealed Himself to Moses as “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14). In doing so here and throughout John 8, Jesus identified Himself as the eternal God — the One who is, who was, and who has now come among His people.

The God who once made His presence known in fire and light now reveals Himself fully in Jesus Christ. His light is no longer distant or guiding from afar, but personal, present, and near.

For us today, this means more than comfort — it means calling. Jesus also said, “You are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14). As His followers, the Holy Spirit at work within us transforms us to become more like Jesus, enabling us to reflect His radiance into our homes, workplaces, and communities. Every act of kindness, every word of truth, every moment of grace allows His light to reach another heart.

May we walk in His light, help others see by it, and allow His power to work through us in the year ahead.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, Light of the world, thank You for stepping into our darkness and drawing near to us. Let Your light continue to shine in our hearts, shaping our words, our actions, and our lives. Help us today to reflect Your grace and truth, so that others may see Your light and give glory to God. Amen.
