Reflection

Throughout Scripture, we see that God’s power is often revealed as His people respond in faith. Again and again, obedience comes before outcome — not because faith earns God’s action, but because trust places us where His grace is already at work.

In Matthew 14, Jesus walks on the water and calls Peter to come. Peter steps out of the boat — and as he does, he walks towards Jesus. The miracle happens as Peter responds in obedience, trusting Jesus.

In Mark 3, Jesus meets a man with a withered hand. Surrounded by critics, Jesus says, “Stretch out your hand.”The man could have said, “I can’t.” Instead, he obeys — and as he stretches out his hand in obedience, healing comes.

This pattern runs throughout Scripture:

  • Moses lifts his staff, and the Red Sea parts (Exodus 14:21).
  • The priests step into the Jordan, and the waters stop (Joshua 3:15–16).
  • Noah builds the ark, and God saves his family through the flood (Genesis 6–8).
  • The widow pours her oil, and it keeps flowing until the jars run out (2 Kings 4:1–7).
  • The lepers go to the priest, and they are healed as they go (Luke 17:14).

Faith doesn’t wait for everything to change — it moves on God’s promise, trusting Him with the outcome.

Maybe God is asking us to take that kind of step. As we respond in faith, we trust that God’s power will be at work in and through our obedience.

Prayer

Lord, teach us to trust You enough to move when You speak. Give us hearts that obey even when the outcome is unclear, and help us to rely on Your grace rather than our understanding. May our faith be lived out in simple obedience, as we walk with You each day. Amen.
