We often come to God, but not completely.
We bring what feels acceptable — our strengths, our good intentions, our visible faith — yet quietly hold back the parts we struggle with. The thoughts we are ashamed of. The habits we wish were gone. The parts of ourselves we fear others might not understand.
We come, but with something still guarded.
Yet God already knows.

Reflection
There is a line in a worship song that captures this beautifully:
“You see the depths of my heart, and You love me the same.”
It is both comforting and unsettling. Comforting, because we are loved. Unsettling, because nothing is hidden.
Over the years, I’ve heard a number of people say, “I’m not good enough to be a Christian.”
And in many ways, that is the very starting point.
Christian faith does not begin with being good enough. It begins with recognising that we are not — and discovering that God moves toward us anyway.
Scripture tells us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Not once we had improved. Not once we had sorted ourselves out. But while we were still struggling.
He did not wait for the polished version of us. He came for the real one.
This means the parts we are most tempted to hide are often the very places where grace longs to reach us. The fears. The doubts. The struggles we would rather keep out of sight.
Nothing about us surprises Him.
Nothing about us pushes Him away.
Nothing about us is beyond His love.
And perhaps surrender is not just giving God our best — but trusting Him with what we would rather keep hidden.
Because freedom often begins when nothing is held back.
Pause and Consider
Is there anything you are holding back from God — something He already knows, and is inviting you to bring into the light?
Prayer
Lord,
You see the depths of my heart, and still You love me.
Help me to stop holding parts of myself back from You.
Give me the courage to bring my whole life into Your light — my strengths and my struggles, my faith and my fears.
Thank You that Your love meets me as I am, and gently leads me where I need to go.
Amen.
