God is Love

Love is a word we use often, yet Scripture reveals a love deeper than feeling or sentiment. At the heart of the Christian faith is the truth that God Himself is love — a love revealed, given, and lived out for our sake. This reflection invites us to consider how God’s love has been made known through Jesus Christ, and how receiving that love brings life, healing, and renewal.

Reflection

Scripture tells us that “God is love” (1 John 4:8). This is not merely a description of what God feels, but of who He is. Love lies at the very heart of God’s character, shaping all that He does. God’s desire has always been relationship, to be known and loved by His people, and to draw them into lives shaped by His love.

That love is most clearly revealed in Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son” (John 3:16). In Jesus, God did not remain distant or abstract. He stepped into our world, taking on flesh, walking among us, sharing in our weakness and suffering. He taught with compassion, touched the untouchable, healed the sick, restored the broken, and welcomed those who had been pushed aside. In His life, we see love not only spoken, but embodied.

Yet God’s love did not stop at Jesus’ life and ministry. It was ultimately displayed at the cross. “God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). Jesus willingly gave Himself, bearing our sin and brokenness, so that we might be forgiven, restored, and brought back into relationship with God.

When we place our trust in Him, that love brings life and renewal. Jesus came that we might have life — and have it abundantly (John 10:10). God’s love heals what is wounded, renews what is weary, and restores what sin has damaged. It does not simply change our circumstances, but transforms us from within.

To know God is to be drawn into His love — a love that saves, heals, and makes all things new.

Prayer

Loving God, thank You that You are love, and that You have shown that love so clearly in Jesus. Thank You for coming near to us, for healing the broken, restoring the lost, and giving Your life so that we might truly live. Help us to trust You more deeply, to receive Your renewing love, and to walk each day in the life You offer. Amen.
